Critically Endangered is the highest category assigned for wild species indicating extreme risk to their existence. If the population of a certain species decreased by 80%, that would mean they are in great danger of becoming extinct.

Extinction can be prevented through conservation programs. However, some programs was introduced after a species become extinct. Some of the most critically endangered animals include Kangaroo Rat and Night Parrot.

In Australia, a large number of mammals, birds and other animals are in danger of dying out. Many animals are killed due to hunting, forest fires, logging, mining and land clearing.
